As the heroes enjoy some down time at the Spector Mansion, they are interrupted one night by a knock at the door. It is none other than Gwen Stacey, who tells them that she can somehow ‘sense’ that Wanda is nearby, somewhere in Central Park. She came to find them because they told her if she needed help, she only had to ask.
They set out immediately for the park, but while in route they are confronted by an angry Spider-Man, who blames them for the ‘death’ of Mary Jane Watson. Before the confrontation comes to blows, the arguing heroes are ambushed by a re-constituted Bullseye’s Masters of Evil.
The heroes square off against Bullseye, Rhino, Scorpion, and their newest addition- the Lizard! Bullseye tells them they are all loose ends, and he’s been hired to clean them up. Battle is joined, and as Bullseye moves to take out what he thinks is an easy mark in Gwen Stacey, Spider-Man stands over the fallen girl.
Spider-Man is grappled away by Scorpion as the melee rages all around, but before Bullseye can move in for the kill, Gwen’s form shifts to glittering crystal. She screams in rage at Bullseye, and her rage hits out at him as if with physical force, momentarily stunning him.
That brief moment is all it takes for Fenris to engage Bullseye and pull the villain’s attention away from the girl. As the battle rages on, the villains are subdued one by one, until Bullseye flees the scene and disappears into the darkness.
As the battle concludes, the heroes assemble around Gwen, who tells them that in times of great stress, she manifests the form that they saw during the fight, and that sometimes she can move things with her mind, or feel the presence of people if they are nearby.
Believing now that Gwen is a previously unknown mutant, the heroes prepare to head into the park. Spider-Man tells them he will see to the beaten villains. With that, they go in to find the kidnapped Wanda Strucker.
